This course introduces the fundamentals of planning research projects in applied science and engineering. At the end of this course, students will be able to effectively define, organize, execute, and analyze and communicate the results of academic research projects following rigorous and thorough methodologies. Furthermore, students will be aware and understand the importance of following standard practices and principles for academic and intellectual integrity.

The main subjects covered in the course include: introduction to research and research methods, selection of research problems and hypotheses, types of research methods and their applications, literature reviews, planning and managing research projects, data gathering techniques, data analysis techniques, effective academic writing and communication, ethics, academic fraud and plagiarism, research involving human subjects, intellectual property and copyrights.
